SCHOLASTIC CHESS TOURNAMENT
About the competition: The tournament will have three (3) timed rounds of competition by age / experience level: Kindergarten-Grade 3, Grades 4-6, Grades 7-9, Grades 10-12. Awards are given to the Finalist and Champion of each division. Angelo Imperati is the Tournament Director for the 2017 EXPO.

Who can participate: Unranked and beginning ranked players in grades K-12 that attend schools in Community School District 5 can compete in the SUPER SATURDAY 9th Annual Chess Tournament. Students can enter as individual players. No competition experience necessary. Students that are excited about playing chess are encouraged to compete. Tournament is capped at 100 students. Registered players must arrive by 9:30 AM to check in. At that time, players on the wait list will be given open slots to compete.

 

MATH COMPETITION
About the competition: The 9th annual Math Competition will have two (2) rounds of competition for grade levels 3-5, 6-8, Algebra I and Advanced Algebra, with a tiebreaker round if necessary. Awards are given to the Champion of each division. Dimitriy Faybyshenko, math teacher at Columbia Secondary School for Math, Science & Engineering, is the Competition Director for the 2017 EXPO.

Who can participate: Students who attend Community District 5 Schools in grades 3-12 can compete as individuals. No math team or prior preparation is necessary. We want students who are eager about math! A great opportunity for enrichment for students to push their thinking and creativity. Competition is capped at 60 students. Registered players must arrive by 9:30 AM to check in. At that time, players on the wait list will be given open slots to compete.

HOUR OF CODE

About the workshop: This year Super Saturday will host its second series of coding workshops. Hour of code this year will be for beginners only. Students will be exposed to the world of programming in hourly sessions hosted by Elite.

Who can participate: All students are welcome to participate. We recommend early registration; competition is capped at 25 students per (hour) session.
